Why did Man City have to deal with Chelsea for Maresca?

Your Site News' Kaveh Solhekol:

"Maresca isn't the Chelsea manager and he hasn't been since the start of the year.

"When he walked out of Chelsea, he still had three and a half years on his contract. Chelsea believed he was contacted about the City job in the Autumn of 2025 and that had a negative impact on their season and that is why Chelsea have been involved.

"The news has not been confirmed by Man City or Chelsea. We do expect Maresca to become the City manager pretty quickly.

"I think he is the outstanding candidate to take over from Pep Guardiola. He has worked at City before and was an assistant on his staff when they won the treble.

"It is a tough act to follow but I don't think Enzo Maresca is going to achieve what Guardiola achieved but he has clear principles, which are alligned with how City want to operate and play.

"It was a risk for Chelsea to appoint him. He had not managed in the Premier League and was with Leicester City. But his time at Chelsea was a success. He got them back into the Champions League, won the Conference League and the Club World Cup.

"But there were problems behind the scenes; he didn't see eye to eye with the leadership team. Issues were bubbling away."

Ramsey top of Oxford United's shortlist

Latest from Your Site News' Mark McAdam:

Aaron Ramsey is at the top of Oxford Uniteds shortlist to replace Matt Bloomfield who left the club last week.

The former Arsenal man has held positive talks with Oxford United over their vacant head coach position and has impressed them with his vision despite very little management experience.

The 35-year-old retired from playing earlier this year and had a caretaker spell in charge of Cardiff in 2025.

Oxford are hoping to make a swift appointment in preparation for League One next season.

Rice agrees new Rangers deal

Rangers midfielder Bailey Rice has agreed a one-year extension, with the option of a further year.

The 19.year-old, who joined from Motherwells Academy in 2022, made two appearances for the Ibrox side last season.

Man City close in on Maresca appointment

Manchester City are close to completing a deal to appoint Enzo Maresca as head coach, according to Sky in Italy.

Sky in Italy are reporting that City will pay Chelsea more than 17m (20m) in compensation and a verbal agreement has been reached by all parties.

Our colleagues in Italy are also reporting that Maresca is due to travel to Manchester in the next 24 hours to sign a three-year contract.

Maresca is said to be excited to start his new challenge as he prepares to succeed Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City and Chelsea did not comment when contacted by Your Site News.

Hearts interview Martens after McInnes exit

Hearts have interviewed Maarten Martens as they look for Derek McInnes replacement as head coach.

The 41-year-old was most recently in charge at AZ Alkmaar.

He was appointed by the Eredivisie club in January 2024 and led them to a fourth-place finish before leaving earlier this year.

McInnes left the Tynecastle club last week to take charge at Rangers.

Brighton closing in on Svoboda signing

Latest from Your Site News' Elliot Cook:

Brighton are closing in on the signing of Venezia and Austria defender Michael Svoboda.

The Premier League club's agreed to activate the player's release clause in his contract of around 4m, Your Site News understands.

The 27-year-old will be hoping to win his fifth international cap later today with his country facing Argentina in the World Cup.

It's understood personal terms won't be a problem.

Brighton are assessing their options at centre-back after the recent departure of Jan Paul van Hecke.

They are awaiting Tottenham Hotspur's response to their latest financial offer for centre-back Luka Vuskovic.

Another centre-back Igor Julio is expected to depart the Amex this summer and Adam Webster left after the expiry of his contract.

Diomande has the traits to succeed at Liverpool, says Carra

Your Site' Jamie Carragher believes Yan Diomande possesses similar traits to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane amid links to Liverpool.

Liverpoolare among a number of clubs interested in the Ivory Coast winger, and have indicated they are prepared to pay up to 86m.

RB Leipzig would be open to selling Yan Diomande for an estimated fee of  112m [130m], Your Site News understands.

"I thought he was fantastic in the first game of the World Cup. Less so in the second game, but still was a real danger," Carragher said.

"I think what you'd be buying is potential. It's not what he is right now. He's a 19-year-old kid. He's a young man.

"But when you look at him physically, he looks like he's got all those attributes.

"You think of the success Liverpool have had in the past with powerful, quick, wide men.

"You think of [Mohamed] Salah and Sadio Mane, especially those two.

"He certainly looks like he's got those type of traits. That's a big thing that Liverpool lacked last season, pace in those wide areas.

"They've already got a signing in now from Spain, from Osasuna, Victor Munoz.

"Maybe they want a little bit of pace on the other side as well. I think it's pretty obvious where Liverpool were lacking last season.

"That looks like where they're going in the market. But is he worth it? Time will tell. As I said, Liverpool spent big last summer.

"Right now,  a year on, we probably would say those players don't look worth it."

Portsmouth make offer for Tuboly

Latest from Your Site News' Lyall Thomas:

Portsmouth have made a 1.3m offer for Hungary U21 international Mate Tuboly.

Your Site News previously reported both Swansea and Watford wanted to sign the defensive midfielder, who plays in the Slovakian top-flight for DAC Dunajska Streda.

Swansea and Watford watched the Hungary U21s captain extensively over his 35 appearances last season, scoring three goals and recording two assists.

Venezia targeting Adams this summer

Scotland's Che Adams is one of Venezia's striker targets this summer, according to Sky in Italy

Venezia had hoped to pay around 3.5m (4m) for the 29-year-old, but his current club Torino want more than that to sell.

Albian Rrhamani of Sparta Prague is the other striker Venezia are looking at.

Real Madrid set to meet with Como to finalise Paz's future

Latest from Sky in Italy's Gianluca Di Marzio:

Real Madrid are set to meet with Como this week to finalise the future of Nico Paz.

Paz came through the Real academy, and the Spanish club inserted a buy-back clause in his contract when he joined Como.

The LaLiga side can buy the attacking midfielder, currently at the World Cup with Argentina, for around 8m until June 30 this summer.

Real want to exercise their option with a view to potentially selling Paz, who has emerged as one of Europe's brightest young prospects.

Real Madrid would like Como to buy Paz for 52m (60m) in a deal which would give them an 69m (80m) buy-back option.

However, Como are not happy with that arrangement, as they had not planned to spend more money on Paz.

Initially, it had looked like Paz would spend another season at Como and Real would exercise the buy-back next summer.

Como are hoping to lean on the player's desire to stay and play under Cesc Fabregas for another season when they meet with Los Blancos.
