Man City charges: Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak promises 'wonderful sit-down' after ruling on alleged Premier League financial breaches

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has promised a "wonderful sit-down" once their case relating to alleged breaches of financial fair play rules is concluded, while also confirming owner Sheikh Mansour has no interest in selling the club.

City and the Premier League are still waiting for an independent commission to publish a ruling almost a year and a half after a disciplinary hearing concluded.

Back in 2023, City were charged with breaking financial fair play rules over a nine-year period, which started in 2009 and went on until 2018. They were also charged with failing to cooperate with Premier League investigations into their finances.

City - who won three Premier League titles in this period - have denied all the charges.

A 12-week behind-closed-doors hearing ran between September and December of 2024 but the footballing world is still waiting to hear the decision.

During an annual end-of-season interview published on City's official channels, Al Mubarak said: "Let me be as consistent as I've always been - until we have a ruling, I can't say much.

"Once we have a ruling, believe me, we're going to have a wonderful sit-down together and I'll say everything I've wanted to say for the last three years."

Al Mubarak has been chairman of the club since 2008 and has overseen a period of unprecedented success, winning eight Premier League titles, four FA Cups, seven League Cups, four Community Shields, one Champions League, one Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup during his time at the helm.

Pep Guardiola's leadership guided City to 20 of those 27 trophies, reshaping the top tier of English football in the process, before departing from his role at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

But despite their legendary manager calling an end to his time as manager after 10 years in charge, Al Mubarak confirmed Mansour has no intention of selling the City Football Group and is targeting continued growth as they enter a new era at City.

He continued: "There's no intention to sell. There's only intention to keep growing this because the view here is that this will only grow and this is a beautiful business to own.

"It's football and it's entertainment. And in the world we're in today, while the world changes and people's attention goes to different things, sport stays.

"And football within sports is the pinnacle. And Manchester City and this group within the football world is a pinnacle. And these sorts of jewels, you don't sell."

Your Site News' Ben Ransom:

"This summer, Man City as a club are going through the most seismic change in 10 years.

"That has led to anxiety about what the immediate future holds. But Khalood Al Mubarak has been clear and wants to project confidence, referencing Sheikh Mansour's own commitment to Man City.

"That commitment is unwavering, according to Al Mubarak, despite it being built for Pep Guardiola.

"The other thing that was striking was about the charges. It was nothing new.

"He has said before he is desperate to talk about them but 18 months after the hearing, we are still none the wiser.

"While we wait, the chairman and club cannot speak, but there is a promise that as soon as we get that ruling, we will hear from Man City on the record."
