Bellamy's Burnley move is off
Latest from Your Site News reporter Vinny O'Connor:
Craig Bellamy's proposed move to Burnley has fallen through.
It is understood that the Championship club have turned their attention to other managerial targets, including Steve Cooper and Rob Edwards.
The Football Association of Wales [FAW] had remained hopeful Bellamy would stay on as Wales boss. The FAW and Bellamy have enjoyed an excellent working relationship, with Bellamy happy in his role as mens senior head coach.
The Nations League begins this autumn, with Wales having earned promotion to League A where they will play Portugal, Denmark and Norway.
And Euro 2028 is now just two years away with Wales hosting several matches, including the opening fixture, which will be played at the 75,000 capacity Principality Stadium in Cardiff, something Bellamy has spoken warmly about leading out Wales at a home tournament.
Earlier this month, responding to questions from Your Site, Bellamy appeared to have closed the door on leaving Wales despite interest from several clubs, including Burnley:
He said: "Wales have given me this opportunity and I'm really grateful for that. I'm fully focused on the next two years and being Welsh manager is unique, full stop."
He added: "To be national team manager - I'm sure plenty of Welsh people and ex-players would give anything to be in this position, and the ones who have been in this position would want to be here again It's an amazing time and I don't want to wish that away. And then to have the opportunity of a home nations tournament and going to the Principality Stadium - I can only imagine what the streets [in Cardiff] would be like leading into it."
